From how to handle conflicts and communicate honestly, to how to place healthy boundaries, with others and with ourselves. How to believe in our self-value and listen to our needs and wishes, without feeling so bad or guilty if we say NO: all this is the essence of the assertiveness school.

The goal: Calibrate our own communication: not aggressive, not passive, just assertive: authentic, honest and non-violent communication to achieve personal and professional satisfaction. To bring your career to the next level, or to bring your relationships to a better state. To identify manipulative communication and respond to that. To embrace disagreements without fear of losing something and achieve great self-respect and self-love. To bring mental wellbeing and prevent burnout at work.

Facilitated by assertiveness coach and mental health first aid trainer Alessandra, you will experience two days of practical exercises that will transform your perspective towards honoring your wants and needs: which is the attitude that precedes assertive communication.

Roleplays and demonstrations (backed up by the science which links assertiveness to mental health and executed with a coaching methodology), together with the use of non-violent communication techniques, will guide you through situations that usually happen both at work and in our personal environment:

  • The fear of speaking up: how to tackle the elephants in the room, and the importance of speaking up instead. How disagreeing does not mean breaking relationships.

  • Requests we cannot meet: how to say NO, meaning it and create boundaries, open up possibilities and alternatives.

  • Leading a team of people: how to make your communication clear but being adaptable to different cultures

  • Poor time management: juggling too many things, even if we love to have 300 projects, can create stress, anxiety and burnout. How to prevent that and have great mental wellbeing (November is stress awareness month!)

  • Case study: how real feedback and non-violent communication can help a family with their unspoken financial issues

Limited seating. Bonus for participants: “The Assertiveness Kit” (exercises booklet and many tools) and access to Alessandra’s book chapter from the Amazon self-help success “Activate Your Life”.

How we work

There will be 15% theory and 85% excercise. Be prepared to touch the boundaries of your comfort zone. Alessandra Patti is very much experienced to keep you in a perfect stretch zone where you learning and reflection happens with ease and without panic.

Facilitator

Alessandra Patti is an assertiveness skills coach and consultant. She facilitates workshops on assertive communication skills and mental health first aid. She works with individuals and also with groups, teaching people how to be more self-assertive. She teaches at the Uni St. Gallen and wrote a book chapter about assertiveness called „The Assertiveness Companion“. She lives in Zurich and her hobby is salsa dancing.
